Neumarkt arrives

Set off and arrive moved

The “walk-in nativity scene – moving arrivals” with life-size figures is a joint project of various Neumarkt groups, individual school classes, integrative groups and social institutions, as well as churches and the city of Neumarkt i.d.OPf.

It is an inclusive exhibition that will be set up on Residenzplatz from December 1 to December 27. The walk-in nativity scene is a place of safety, it offers protection and is intended to help people who are on their way to arrive. With themselves, in a partnership, at work or really in one place, their own home.

The participating groups each interpreted the arrival in their own way and applied it to personal situations. The result is many different characters with their very own stories. A cheerful togetherness, characterized by mutual understanding, acceptance and tolerance is the message, because Neumarkt arrives together.

Since February 2020, the city of Neumarkt i.d.OPf. has been part of the European Intercultural City network. As such, it is committed to using diversity as an advantage for the entire urban society and promoting common understanding.

The exhibition can be visited individually. The QR code on the figures provides people with background information on the project and the groups involved. The opening will take place on December 1 at 3 pm. There will be another guided tour on December 8, also at 3 pm.

A very lively project that shows how valuable the diversity of individuals is in order to develop a great whole.

Anna teacher

Head of Social Affairs

As an illustrator, working on this inclusive project was a matter close to my heart. It was inspiring to visually express diversity and create stories that include everyone. Such projects show how powerful illustration can be in building bridges

Questions and answers

Here you will find many questions and answers about the project

What is the idea and aim of the project?

The idea behind the project is to explore the topic of arrival. What does this mean for the individual or a community in today’s world? What challenges are there due to different starting situations?

The aim of the project is to develop an understanding of a community that allows each and every one of us to arrive personally. It is a call for more mutual understanding, acceptance and tolerance.

Which figures can be seen in the crib?

There are 13 different characters in total, all of whom have asked themselves the question of arrival. Very individual figures were created, from an altar boy to a street musician to a face of diversity.
