Neumarkt arrives
Our groups introduce themselves
Here we present the talented groups who have passionately and creatively designed our life-size nativity figures with the artistic guidance of Monika Bradl. These impressive works are the result of dedicated communities, including the altar servers of the Hofkirche parish, the Diakonie day center and the Ostendorf grammar school. At this point, we would particularly like to highlight the cooperation between Regens Wagner and the school pastoral team at the Weinbergerstraße secondary school. Together they have created 3 figures. This encounter and cooperation has created a new space that will be filled with joint projects in the future in the spirit of “approaching one another”.
Through teamwork and a lot of passion from young and old people, people with and without disabilities or, quite simply, people like you and me, a total of 13 outstanding and unique figures have been created. They are as individual and special as the people who designed them.

#1 JURA workshops Neumarkt
At JURA-Werkstätten Neumarkt gemeinnützige GmbH, the focus is on people. As a workshop for people with disabilities, there is a wide range of work on offer here, which is geared towards the needs of people with varying degrees of impairment. For example, in the creative area of the JURA-Werkstätten Neumarkt: an inspiring space in which creative talents can unfold.
The diverse range of activities extends from artistic design to arts and crafts. All employees have the opportunity to put their own ideas into practice and learn new techniques in the process. The creative area not only promotes personal development, but also the employees’ self-confidence.
Working together in creative teams results in impressive, expressive works and also a great sense of community with the joy of artistic creation. And it shows: The products of the creative area often find their way into smaller markets or exhibitions, which also gives employees the chance to present their work to a wider audience. In this way, creativity becomes a bridge for social participation and integration.
The Diakonie NAH e.V. day center is a meeting place for people living with a mental illness. It is an offer to give the days structure and content.
The day center offers contact opportunities, the chance to have lunch, hobby and leisure activities and non-binding work and activity offers with different levels of difficulty. The activities take place in groups and with professional guidance. A varied program is put together every month.
Our aim is to provide stability, support in daily life and make it possible to have a good time.
Over a period of several months, our acrylic painting group created the Holzmichl. Under the project management of Alexander Liebsch (qualified social pedagogue), 8 visitors designed the wooden figure in various creative process phases.
Ms. Claudia Deml lovingly painted the sad and depressive side of Michl and Mr. Rolf Sohler-Zinner the smiling side.
Michl carries a health ball in his hand. This was designed in another art project and was awarded 1st place at Kunst auf Bayerns Burgen in Burglengenfeld. Mr. Erwin Meier, Mr. Gerhard Betz, Fr. Hildegard Danneberg and others were responsible for the large-scale wood priming work and Fr. Petra Meisl and Fr. Natalia Plischke painted the stones with the depressive symptoms.
Everyone had a lot of fun designing the Holzmichl. Above all, the fact that Michl is also symbolically represented on Residenzplatz as part of society for people with mental illness.

#3 – Court Church
The Hofkirche Neumarkt is one of the two large parishes in Neumarkt. It is the point of contact when baptism or godparent certificates are required, when people want to get married in church or for funerals.
Many people are actively involved in parish life on a daily basis. For example, the parish festival is organized, as well as many other Christian events and various lectures, the church services are celebrated and the training of altar servers in particular is promoted. In group lessons, they are prepared for serving at church services and develop a sense of community united in faith. Lively friendships are formed that often last a lifetime.
My name is Rita Großhauser, I have enjoyed living with my family in our wonderful Neumarkt since 1982. From the very beginning, I have passed on tolerance and charity to my 3 children and 3 grandchildren.
In 2020, I was elected to the city council for the UPW. I was then given the great job of Integration Officer.
Through my work on the city council, I have learned to look even more intensively through multicultural glasses. Here I was able to recognize the value that our colourful mix of different nations can bring. I recognize the essentials in cultural and human differences. My perspective has been sharpened by the high level of trust and social cohesion in this intercultural city.
Peaceful, respectful and open-minded interaction with and among each other is the basis of every way of life. I experience this more and more often in the various committees I am involved in.
Social acceptance can only be achieved through joint discussions, meetings and events.
I have learned to be more attentive to my counterpart, to consider the life they have led so far and how they feel and what they think.
This great joint project, the walk-in nativity scene, was initiated by me. It shows to a high degree how intercultural Neumarkt is. I am grateful to be part of the campaign and am very proud of all of us and this special achievement.

#5 – Ostendorfer Gymnasium
Ostendorfer Gymnasium is a recognized UNESCO project and European School, which as such is committed to education with a focus on human rights and peace, global citizenship, world heritage and intercultural learning.
Last summer, a year 9 class, together with their art teacher Nicola Thumann, dedicated themselves to the theme of the walk-in nativity scene. After careful consideration, the pupils found the soldier to be a suitable figure for the nativity scene, as he is not always seen without prejudice in society. Nevertheless, he also has a place in society and the community, as do the different pupils at the grammar school.
Intercultural learning from each other is important, on a small and large scale. In this way, prejudices can be broken down and a more open approach to each other can be encouraged.
Pastoral care at the Weinberger Straße secondary school in Neumarkt
Learning to live together is the motto of our school. School pastoral care as a service of the church to the people in the school environment would like to help ensure that learning to live together at our school is increasingly successful.
This is why projects are initiated and supported,
- strengthen the community,
- encourage people to go their own way,
- that create connection and solidarity.
With the participation of two pupils in the city of Neumarkt’s project “Walk-in crèche – arriving on the move”, “Learning to live together” became a tangible experience!
“If you take your time and go for a spin with me, I’ll show you all my colors.”

#7 – Regens Wagner
Since 2018, Regens Wagner Lauterhofen has been offering a residential facility specifically for people with traumatic brain injury in Dr.-Schrauth-Straße in Neumarkt.
The home has 24 residential places with twelve single and six double apartments. With the integrated support center, a modern and centrally located, barrier-free living space was created in the city center of Neumarkt.
Many double apartments are equipped with an eat-in kitchen, most single apartments have a small kitchenette for preparing snacks. The others are also equipped with the appropriate connections and can be easily retrofitted. All residents have barrier-free access to their own bathroom in their individual living area. Each resident also has the option of connecting a telephone, television and internet connection.
I’m Elena, 23 years old, and I’m currently in my second year of training as a carpenter.
As a former student at vocational school, I came across this project last year from my teacher Mr. Sammer and was immediately enthusiastic. I have long been committed to feminism and equal rights for all genders.
It is important to me to live in a world in which everyone has the same opportunities and rights, regardless of gender, origin or other attributions.
That’s why I want to share my thoughts and ideas with you here and work together towards a fairer society.

#9 – Neumarkt secondary school for boys
The Staatliche Realschule für Knaben Neumarkt is a large school family that is involved in many different ways:
These include research groups as an example of the STEM field or collaborations in the areas of music, theater or school crossing guards with the neighboring girls’ secondary school. There are also frequent collaborations with regional companies for school buildings and public spaces. Of course, there are also various sporting events that create space for encounters. The boys at KRS Neumarkt always approach things with an open mind!

Quotes from our contributors
For me, arriving means that I can and may feel comfortable and that I am accepted for who I am.
Where I can forget my fears and worries.
Creativity arises when we exchange ideas with each other and create something unique as a community.
We are delighted that visitors to the day center for people living with a mental illness have also arrived at the walk-in crèche.
Arriving on the move is a great challenge for many and often also a great sense of achievement.
In many respects, this is an exciting project that provides scope for new approaches.
